The school also has the highest number of Koori students at a Melbourne metropolitan secondary school. In 2017, Newsboys Foundation supported Thornbury High School to provide all Year 7 students with free musical instruction and instrument use. The Making a Musical Difference was a big success. Following on from this success, Thornbury High School is supporting students to continue their music education in 2018. All of the Year 7 students are participating in the music education program. More than 70 per cent of the Year 8 students are continuing their music tuition. Support from Newsboys Foundation is helping Thornbury High School to buy an additional 19 instruments. The instruments are being used by Year 8 students who are from financially disadvantaged backgrounds and are not able to purchase or hire their own musical instrument. thornburyhs.vic.edu.au VICTORIAN STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (VICSRC) Newsboys Foundation Youth Leadership Award VicSRC is the peak body representing school students in Victoria.
