Mission To fund community organisations to provide programs and activities for young people experiencing disadvantage in Victoria. We will do this by: • Maintaining a strong financial strategy • Building a best-practice model of a philanthropic foundation • Ensuring rigorous assessment of grants • Honouring our Newsboys Club heritage by paying particular attention to ages 11-18 years • Maintaining high awareness of emerging community needs • Being expert at working with other organisations • Building organisational capacity. Grant-making priorities The Newsboys Foundation provides grants to community organisations working with disadvantaged young people aged 11-18 in Victoria. In particular, it supports initiatives that meet the diverse education needs of these young people. The Newsboys Foundation encourages grass-roots organisations to apply. A variety of strategies will be considered for support, including programs involving the arts, outdoor education, sport and social enterprises. Priority is given to initiatives that help disengaged young people re-engage with education, with an emphasis on one or more of the following: • Successful transition from primary to secondary school • Completion of secondary school • Successful transition from secondary education into further education, a trade, training or suitable employment The Newsboys Foundation focuses on supporting: • Young people from low socio-economic circumstances • Young people in rural and regional Victoria • Young Indigenous people • Young refugees and asylum seekers • Young people with disabilities Since 1893, the Newsboys Foundation (previously the Melbourne Newsboys Club) has been working to make a difference in the lives of young people. In 2015/16, the Newsboys Foundation and the Newsboys Foundation Trust supported 40 community-based organisations. Each year, philanthropic grants from the Newsboys Foundation help change the lives of hundreds of young Victorians for the better.
