Dr Omaru Maruatona joined the board of the Newsboys Foundation on 28 September 2023.
Omaru is the CEO at Aiculus, which specialises in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
He previously worked with Westpac to develop a machine-learning-based fraud detection algorithm.
He has also consulted for PwC Australia in cyber security architecture and strategy.
He is a thought leader in the application of AI and smart cities and has published and spoken at various organisations and conferences in Australia.
Omaru holds a PhD in applied artificial intelligence from Federation University and a Bachelor of Software Engineering (honours first class) at La Trobe University.
He was named Federation University Distinguished Alumnus in 2022.
He is on the board of Community Bank Buninyong (Victoria), chair of the board at Aiculus (Singapore), is an advisory board member at The Business Pickle (Australia) and is an executive adviser with CyLon (UK).
